Fiction matters. While non-fiction invites us to examine ideas, fiction allows us to live them. Through archetypes, characters, symbols, themes, and story, fiction transforms abstract concepts into lived experience, thereby giving us another way to understand those concepts, relate to them, and integrate them into our lives. Free from the constraints of literal events, fiction reveals patterns that reality often obscures, just as it presents complex matters with a clarity that our world rarely affords.
My forthcoming novels, The Light at Dusk series, use narrative to explore the same questions as my essays and my practice. Where the non-fiction speaks to intellect, the novels engage imagination, emotions, instinct, and the deepest layers of the psyche. Together, the two explore truths that neither can fully illuminate on its own.
